I just wanted to say: Hi! I’m over here hanging in my hammock in the sun in my garden in North West England and also in your world and a happy combination it is too!
Thanks so much, Barb. It is an amazing quote, isn't it? I loved hearing what Kate DiCamillo had to say about writing, especially writing for kids and how important it is to tell them the truth. It's a lovely conversation.
This is such a reassuring post. I find it hard to imagine those strangers too. I've only had short stories published atm, but I'm working on my first novel and there's always a fear in the back of my mind that no-one will read it. Imposter syndrome sucks. (love the tattoos btw!)
I'm so glad you found it reassuring, Lucy! It is hard to imagine those strangers, but I guess as writers, we should be well-equipped to picture them out there, somewhere, opening our books and reading our words. Congrats on publishing your short stories and good luck with the novel! A great quote I came across on here recently that might: "A writer's job is to outlast doubt." That's from Steve Almond.
Thanks, I do love my tiny little tattoos. They make me happy and now they're a reminder of that great conversation.
That’s interesting to contemplate, how do we make writing more intimate?
Yes! I've seen people set up with typewriters sometimes, writing poems on demand and that's sort of cool. I wonder if we could do better.

Oh, that's lovely to picture, Helen. Thanks for the image and for hanging out in my world for a while!
Really lovely reflections, thank you.
Thanks so much, Kaspa!
Good food for thought here.
Love this: “We have been given the sacred task of making hearts large through story."

Thank you so much! What a good quote too, I'll keep that one in mind
