Hey, a little mid-week (late week? quasi-weekend?) post to say hello to all my witches out there and to reassure everyone that we are doing much better this November than we were last year this time. This is actual fact. I have proof in the totally subjective form of my morning pages journal, which I look at every now and then just to wave at crazy Robyn in the past (as opposed to crazy Robyn in the present or future).
This year last time the orange person had not yet conceded. I guess I still had hope he would. But we had that life-sucking anxiety hanging over our head on top everything else. Classes at the college had already gone online due to rising case numbers, which meant Jeff and I rarely left the house and had started to refer to it as the space station. As in, “What a lovely morning in the space station!” and “I wonder what’s happening back on Earth, but what do we care from the safe distance of the space station!” and “Why are there cats on the space station?” We were funny even in the darkest days of the pandemic.
Yes, okay, so maybe winter in Indiana always feels a little like you’re stuck in the vast coldness of space, but the sun is shining, the orange person is not our president, we’re going to finish out the fall semester fully in-person, and we have vaccines and boosters and even pills! I believe this winter is going to be better, even if I’m still feeling a little jittery.
Am I the only one? How is everybody else out there feeling as we slide into the winter months? Hopeful? Anxious? Numb? Let me know in the comments and if you want some further reassurance, check out Saaed Jones post about his winter jitters and subscribe to his very lovely newsletter while you’re there.
Newsletter-related question—do you like reading mid-week posts? Do you want more, like, yes, please, a whole week is too long to wait? Or, no, please get out of my inbox, thank you?
I think we are definitely all feeling a bit numb and just, exhausted. I read an article that described part of it as decision fatigue. It's so hard to figure out what we are and aren't supposed to be doing and that makes you numb eventually, too. Thanks for reading and commenting!
Yes! More would be great
Thanks, Ruth!
Enjoy mid week. Feeling a bit anxious about winter months mostly because we're becoming numb and careless.
