Thanksgiving is weird
Happy day before Thanksgiving! I’ve been pre-cooking since Monday and I have no idea why and also no real ability to stop myself. I never cook or eat like this, so what on earth compels me to do it now? That’s Thanksgiving, surely one of the weirdest rituals around.
I’ve been thinking about the newsletter in relation to Monday’s post about the opposite of the internet. Where do newsletters fit in? Are they umwelt or mitwelt? A lot of you out there reading are also people I know—friends and neighbors. Some of you aren’t (Hello and thanks for reading!). When I read someone else’s newsletter, I feel like they’re talking directly to me, even though I know they aren’t. Or maybe they are? Is a newsletter the internet equivalent of gathering around the campfire? Or sitting down to the Thanksgiving table, minus the most annoying of your relatives?
I don’t know. What do you think? Tell me all about it in the comments.
The first winter writing workshop was last night. We did a deep dive into gratitude and it was amazing! I should not be surprised that I live in a community full of creative, talented people, but it was so nice to be reminded. The next workshop is December 28 and we’ll be writing joy.
Obviously, one of the things I’m grateful for is all of you out there reading. Thanks again and have a great Thanksgiving!
