I have been feeling so unmoored lately and so many others have told me the same thing. This helps it make more sense. I can still tell you what desk I say in for some classes in high school - 30+ years ago!
Oh, that's so funny about being able to remember which desk you sat in. I probably still can, too! But I can only remember classes I've taught if I can remember which room they were in. We're a locational species.
Absolutely STOP claiming that it's freedom you care about, folks. I agree there 100%. But I think this anomie began before the pandemic set in. Our country was off kilter during the election preceding the pandemic and things just kept getting more out of whack as we went along. The old rules didn't apply any more. Societal norms were thrown out the window - it became ok to scream at people in public and behave terribly. Are things getting better? I would hope so, but it is going to be a very long, slow process.
I think you're right, Stephanie. It all kinds of blends together, the pandemic and those four years. I worry about where we're going and hope we are getting better. Fingers crossed.
